Pot air knife equipment and edge baffle plates, Costa Rica

Problem

The company has a large Galvanizing Line. They were having problems controlling the zinc coating weight accurately, particularly zinc build up problems on the edges of the strip and this often resulted in reduced line speeds and poor productivity. Their cost of zinc consumption was over budget and their product quality suffered with edge build up problems.

Solution

Bronx designed and supplied new Air Knife equipment to fit into their existing line. The new air knives had push button control for knife position for horizontal and vertical adjustment. All movement were either independent control or combination control giving the operator complete control flexibility. Bronx also designed and supplied Edge Baffle Plates to eliminate the zinc build up on the strip edges.

Result

The sink coating weight is now under consistent, accurate control. The push button controls have made it safer and easier for the operators to make fine adjustments for better accuracy. The Edge Baffle Plates have removed the zinc edge build up problems so the output strip shape is significantly improved.
