Problem

A very large Australian based steel manufacture set up a plant in Indonesia in 1982. The plant included a large galvalume line and a continuous coil paint line. The paint line had only one paint coater and oven system, so when a 3 coat paint system was required (pretreatment, primer, topcoat), the coils had to be double passed through the line. This restricted production capacity in a growing market.

Solution

The customer installed a second paint coating and oven curing equipment so a 3 coat process could be achieved with the strip only passing through the line once. Bronx supplied a special quick change ‘U’ Wrap Roll coater machine to apply the top coat paints. The ‘U’ Wrap Coater machine had to fit into an existing paint coater room so a dedicated machine was designed by Bronx.

Result

The paint line has increased it’s production capacity significantly for 3 coat paint systems. The line can change paint colours very quickly with the Bronx quick change ‘U’ Wrap Coater, thus increasing line utilisation and productivity. This has increased sales into the local and export markets.
