The price of zinc has increased significantly around the world over the past couple of years and this increase has resulted in diminishing profits for companies operating Metal Coating Lines.

Steel companies have found success in removing their original zinc coating control equipment and retro-fitting Bronx Air Knives into their lines. As an example, several major steel companies in India have converted their lines to the Bronx system and in some cases more than one line within a company has been converted. The Bronx equipment can be used on all types of Metal Coating Lines including Galvanizing Lines and Al/Zn Coating Lines.

The benefits that have been realised include very accurate zinc coating weight control from side to side and from top to bottom strip surface. In addition, total zinc consumption has been reduced to levels where the initial investment in the Bronx equipment has been re-paid quickly. The better coating weight control has also been seen at increased line speeds, providing increased line productivity with reduced process conversion costs and when a line is producing 200,000 tonnes of coated strip per year, the financial benefits become outstanding.

The Bronx Air Knife equipment is much smaller than the original line equipment that has been removed. This compact design has allowed greater operator access to the Pot equipment and has benefits with equipment handling and storage.

The Bronx Air Knives include Edge Baffle Plates to minimise any build-up of zinc coating on the strip edges, which is a critical issue for eliminating strip shape defects upon recoiling.
