The Satellite Concept

Bronx has an excellent name in building medium to large Colour Coating lines world wide. Bronx has realised that a large inflexible line is not always the best option. The realisation led to Bronx developing the Satellite Concept.

Satellite not only offers better service to the end user and cheaper conversion costs, it also means an enormous saving of inventory of finished colour stock is possible.

To understand the full implication of the satellite concept requires a re-think of conventional wisdom. Paint lines traditionally are high output, relatively inflexible production lines. They are positioned at a manufacturing center, and apply prime and finish colour coats to coils which are then usually shipped around the country to service centers near the end user, where fabrication of the finished product takes place.

What is the problem? Simply, there are a large number of finish colours to be applied on equally large number of widths, thickness and base steel grades. This means that to offer reasonable delivery to suit customer needs, very large stocks of finished product must be held. Some manufacturers we know have more than 50 colours to service, all applied on the one big line at the steel making plant.

The Satellite concept refers to a range of small, inexpensive colour coating lines, in either continuous or stop/start configuration. They can be installed (usually in existing buildings) in the main manufacturer’s plant, or in a service centre close to the end user.
Satellite can be purchased as a simple stop/start line and later converted to a continuous line, or can be purchased as a continuous line.
